I believe the portrayal of men in 2014 in the western world is a double-edged sword... Men are viewed as dispensable, useless, pawns and puns/punchlines of jokes. Not only by women, but also by children alike. Sitting ducks as bulls eyes in the business world as the feminists take shots to either usurp or emasculate them.
On the other hand, the role of the man has not subsided one bit. From Chairman of the board to Stay-At-Home Dads, the man is always looked to for continued support of their families and business associates ta boot. This support is expected in many different ways; Financially is still at the top of the list, Emotionally is a growing section; Mentally/Physically as sounding board and confidant; Spiritually as the head of houseHolds. The definition of manhood is continually being enlarged, and re-invented....and its all expected to be done with a stern, unwavering brow. Wow, stay tuned to the menzclub for more. ELU
I think men are portrayed pretty fairly except in the news. One thing I noticed when I was in Atlanta was how it appeared that black men were portrayed as they only criminals. Are black men the only people who commit crime in Atlanta? Watch the evening news and you will see what I'm saying. SMH

ReplyDeleteI agree that in 2014 it seems a mans worth is questioned, but on the flip side, I always think of my dad (who was my hero).
