Atlanta Science Festival

Atlanta Science Festival

 Its science!

On March 22nd - 29th, 2014, The Menzclub will be attending at the Atlanta Science Festival.

The Atlanta Science Festival envisions a community of scientifically literate citizens and a strong STEM workforce in Atlanta. That vision begins with efforts to engage our youth in learning inside and outside the classroom. The initiatives below accompany many school programs offered by our partners and listed online. Imagine the future. What are the unanswered questions in science? What are the unsolved problems facing our community? How can young people envision themselves addressing the challenges of our future with STEM knowledge and careers? Classroom visits. STEM professionals will visit 100 local classrooms to give students a taste of how science is done, who scientists are, and what questions remain unanswered. Sponsored by Mercer University and Mercer Health Science Center.

TAG-Ed Middle School WEBChallenge. Student teams compete to design a website that identifies how STEM knowledge and careers can address future challenges. Winners receive postsecondary scholarships presented by the Technology Association of Georgia Education Collaborative [TAG-Ed]. Including a Broader Community. Thirty schools and organizations received bus vouchers to bring their groups to the March 29th Expo at Centennial Park. Sponsored by the Emory College
                                                                            Center for Science Education.

Celebrating Our Teachers. ASF honors the daily contribution teachers make to prepare our future STEM leaders with educator appreciation events at the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and professional development workshops by Captain Planet Foundation, Georgia Tech CEISMC, Southern Polytechnic State University, and Metropolitan RESA.
Let’s see….there will be [ education, enthusiasm, engagement, events and expo ], all in Centennial Park, downtown ATL. Curious?    Then why not try something new? Most events are open to the public for free where you may have a chance to shape the future buy racing in a Nerdy Derby, learn about the Nano World or explore the stars. Join for Atlanta’s biggest interactive science celebration. Meet local scientists and engineers! Touch a brain! Crawl into an inflatable planetarium! Climb aboard the Bio-Bus and the STE(A)M Truck! Recycle with Captain Planet!

With more than 100 interactive science booths and shows from local organizations, universities and companies, we’ll be showing off Atlanta Science with hands-on activities and demonstrations from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Exploration Expo on March 29th. Male Pattern Baldness [Alopecia]

MALE PATTERN BALDNESS

I have seen it effect the young,..guys who are in their growing prime, fresh out of college, 20-25 yrs old, with a fairly decent diet.    I have seen it effect the strong,.. guys who hit the ‘bricks’ on the regular, swim an ocean blue and run a marathon or two.      I have seen the mature and/or elderly succumb to its call, where even their wisdom and knowledge couldn’t keep them immune to its grasp.  Maybe it is due to the fact that @ a certain age it is expected, right? But in some cases…..NOT!!! for I’ve seen some not effected at all.

There is no discrimination of it, as it characteristically is handed down from your forefathers hereditarily and there’s not much of a cure for it,…[there are the drugs available to assist in slowing down the hair loss process], but no cure to prevent it to date. Male Pattern Baldness is the culprit, and here are some symptoms if you believe you are one of its latest victims. [scroll]
Telly Savalas

Issac Hayes

Michael Jordan
So have you let your sunroof back yet? Haha…a term

created for that missing dome piece, circle of hair that

starts the beginning of the loss in many [for others it

starts creeping back from the hairLine], some seek relief

w/ the comb-over, [an attempt to comb hair from the

surrounding area to try to cover the missing]. Some

choose to go bald by wearing no hair at all, a.k.a. the

kovatis back in the day, or chrome dome in the

vernacular, made popular by the likes of Issac Hayes in

the 70’s, Tele Savalas [Kojak] in the 80’s, and Michael

Jordan in the 90’s, now it has become as common as a

wig [bloop].  One final attempt has been made in the

form of the tup’ee, [im not quite sure why men do this,

cause everyone usually knows that they’re sporting a

rug, see Donald Trump]. [scroll]
Vin Diesel

Ving Rhames
There have been many to sport the BaldLook, from Vin

Diesel, Tu Pac, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, or Ving

Rhames …to name only a few. However, some can

avoid this plague altogether, by being blessed with

parents who didn’t have this trait as a problem. But for

those of the rest???...Try some of these home remedies,

or some or your own.You can sport your favorite team on

your baseball cap, or maybe a nice fedora, as you get a

consultation for hair follicle implants, or just shave it all

off, either way… ill be seeing ya. Peaces.

Whiskey Tasting with Remy Martin

Whiskey Tasting with Remy Martin

Confession…
I don’t drunk!
….but don’t mind a good drink.
I am not a drinker.
Although I could have one with the boys,  I don’t regularly reach for alcohol or liquor………having said that:

Experience an experience.

Remy Martin [pronounced mar’ tan], invited me to a whiskey tasting event this past late summer and Boy Oh Boy, …can U say “sweet surrender”? hahaha. This was actually my 2nd voyage to the forbidden place, [1st time in Chicago with my brother BK, 2nd time back home in NYC with… the youngJedi]. The forbidden place was so swank, you wouldn’t want to leave. If U're smart, you would eat before entering the place where time stops, and your pulse quickens. I ordered OUT, but brought it IN, as I rushed to stand On-Line, but once I got settled, met some other like-minded folk [of the Asian Persuasion], same age-range who knows better than to tease the dragon called Remy, on a empty stomach. We chatted and rush/ate our entrees so we would be ready for what lied ahead.

Adjust your lenses, as I try to describe both locations at once:                                Have U ever seen a movie where there are vampires?...with the best clubhouse ever built? Exposed brick walls, perfectly waxed and polished hardwood floors, timeless art on the walls, and sculpture strategically placed so they are most noticed and appreciated, dimly lit.  Secondly, some of the most sexiest hostesses, all varieties [I know…right], clad in those all important little black dresses that look like they were born into them? hahaha. U get thrown in with a motley-Crew of co-passengers as U make your journey… winding you way thru the tour, [groups made up of about 4/5 people each, 8/10 groups in total…..chose names, my group was called the Drunkz, with archrivals called the Alcoholics].

The facilitator [same fly Guy at both events], leads U to the place where this stuff is made [U actually felt U were there…in the land called Cognac], told stories, prescriptions and jokes as the tour made its scheduled stops. U were invited to mix and remix the potion to test your hand at the “perfect blend”. By the time you were done, and docked at the final stop…U and all of your party were a bunch of laughing, drunken idiots lol…wow what fun. [did I say party and drunk in the same sentence? ], well sorry if U missed it.  In this day in the Information Age, when most reach for their smartPhones for companionship, it was nice to know that getting twisted w/ a bunch of strangers made us all feel like friends.

If U ever get that invite, let me know how it goes.

FootCare

DISCLAIMER:  MenzClubTheBlog in no way professes expertise in this field, but simply aims to provide encouragement for healthy living – be sure to consult a professional for more info, and the last word on footCare. For the sake of this article, feet are referred to as …Dogs.

You’re in the shower and you wash everything except between your toes and your feet, thinking the whole time; “the water running down my leg will get them”. When all it does is get them a little wet, you lazy fart.  As a couple of the most important organs that you have, if you don’t care for your feet – you wont have a leg to stand on!
Your feet make getting around so much easier and deserve proper care.  Why would you neglect such a vital organ?  Do you enjoy standing up? Walking?. Riding a bike? Running? or playing sports? How about maintaining balance while at any of the above?  And I’m sure that your girlfriend, wife or mother (which can be all the same woman for some) has warned you about those smelly socks and funky shoes.  If bad DOGS run in your family history, seek out proper care on your annual doctor’s visits, or seek out Podiatrists in your area, being sure to discuss any concerns, fears or pains that you may have.  If not, don’t wait ‘til they fall off before you decide to care for them.  Here are some common problems that those who have neglected their feet experience…

Athlete’s Foot [Fungal & Bacterial Conditions]; which include peeling, dry skin, itching, and blisters can develop on your feet due to humid, damp, sweaty, dark places = which are your shoes, that provide the perfect breeding ground for this fungus to grow. Corns/Calluses; are formed when the side of the toes and foot rub up against the shoes to create friction, pressure and discomfort. Worn and Busted Shoes can also play a part in bad feet, try to have a nice variety of shoes to wear.  Not so much different styles, but more so in the thinking of shoes to work in, shoes to play in, and shoes to dress in. Update them as needed to prevent them from “leaning” [becoming extremely worn].…and then there are Hammer Toes; which are caused by tendons in the foot that regulate toe movement that are shortened, the toe knuckle is swollen or enlarged causing the toe to curl back.
As you can see, by neglecting your feet, they can strike back with a pretty serious venge, so here are some ways to care for your dogs....
A daily regime of foot care is essential. Taking a warm foot bath or making sure to wash them while in the shower, cleaning between the toes on a regular basis is a good start.
Dusting your feet daily with a foot powder if needed is also recommended for those of you with foot issues. Change your socks regularly, or even wearing 2 pairs of socks will help cushion your feet and absorb moisture in your shoes.
Be sure to moisturize or lube your feet too, as the dry skin can cause chaffing and discomfort as well, [especially in cooler/dryer seasons]. Don’t forget about proper maintenance of your toenails, [Pedicures] keeping them well groomed and trimmed, by cutting them straight across and level with the top of the toe. For additional pampering, try having a foot message, even while resting at home, be sure to put your feet up while sitting or lying down to keep the blood circulating as much as possible, and finally…Don’t Smoke!
Now if you’re smart, you would ask your girl, wifey or mom to offer a little TLC and do it for you. If Jesus can wash feet, then so can they.
